The University’s educational goal is to prepare its graduates for complex tasks in product and communication design. At the same time this educational strategy enables young designers to work as transformers and catalysors in groups with other experts from different disciplines and areas of expertise.
The educational programme enables students to work on exemplary case studies and establish far-reaching principles and to recognize their model character for future problem solving situations. This is the Gmünder Model.
In the communications design course the strengths of the University lie in the spectrum of publications, interface design, digital user interfaces, signage and orientation systems, identities for institutions and corporations, multi-media teaching materials, and exhibition design.
The product design course is known especially for the design of technical goods, tools, furniture, medical and sports equipment, objects worn and used on the body, workplaces, and in concepts for mobility and transport systems.
